Happy birthday Jesus

More commonly known as Christmas, but today is in fact, the day we set aside to celebrate Christ's birth. So it's really a big birthday party and we've already received the best gift of all-- Jesus. God gave us his only son, who was born into our world-- all God, all man-- to save us from our sin so that we can have eternal life. "But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions -- it is by grace you have been saved....For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith -- and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God -- not by works, so that no one can boast." Ephesians 2:4-5/8-9, emphasis added by me. So we run around making, baking and buying in an attempt to celebrate this special day. We do that because God gave us a gift and the wise men gave Jesus gifts, but I pray we don't lose sight of the real reason for this day. It's not about the gifts we give or even the ones we receive because, as I said, we've already been given the best gift of all and the only one that truly matters. Jesus.
We were dead in our sins before Christ. And then He gifted His only son- Jesus Christ- who came to give us eternal life. What is more deserving of celebration than that?

Happy birthday, Jesus. Thank you for the gift of you. Merry Christmas to you all.
