Our weekend

We had a great weekend, didn't hurt the weather was beautiful! Daniel flew in from Houston Friday afternoon-- he was there all week so we were happy to see him.

just wanted to add a pic of Maggie sitting
Saturday we went to church because Daniel signed up to read a devotional between Upward basketball games. Many families who don't go to church play basketball there and come to the games so this is a perfect time to do as we Christians are called to do and spread His word. Many guys from our SS class signed up to read between each game; Daniel's devotional was at 12:30 so we grabbed lunch on the way--Will requested a cheese roll-up-- and decided to eat alone...

When it was time for Daniel to speak, Will had to follow him. It was cute until Will climbed the bench and Daniel had to pull him down. So I called him over to me and he cried for daddy while Daniel was praying. Nice. I am so proud of Daniel not only for doing this but being so willing to sign up at our SS teacher's first request; he did a great job writing a devotional (aside fromt he bible verse of course) and speaking about Grace- our church's focus this year- in front of a gym full of basketball spectators!

Will enjoyed watching the game
In between church and bible study yesterday, we had ice cream sandwiches (with mint chocolate cookies as the 'sandwich') and everyone but mommy took a nap.

Patty Cakes

I finally got Maggie's Patty Cakes yesterday! They took much longer this time than when I had Will's done. I put her little hands and feet up to the plaques and they've already grown. Of course, they were done in October when she was 6 weeks old, so she should have grown. But still. She's outgrowing her little baby-ness. I am happy she's sleeping through the night now-- something she was not doing at 6 weeks. Sweet are the days gone by but I will enjoy every minute of today. Just for a comparison, I took a picture of Maggie and Will's Patty Cakes side by side. Guess whose is whose and I'll post the answer in a couple days to see if anyone guessed correctly!

The sets are next to each other- I didn't mix them up.
So guess top or bottom. Good luck!

Walks with Daddy

Will loves to go for walks around the neighborhood and this past week he's asked us to take a walk instead of vice versa. Well, the last two times he asked to walk while Maggie was napping or about to eat, so just Will and daddy went (plus one dog, we lost a leash somewhere and need a new one:). I enjoy walks myself so I hate to miss out on them but I think it's sweet watching them walk down the street together. And something about it says father/son bonding to me. So that makes my heart smile all the more.

Daniel took Will on a walk Monday evening and returned with a very cute story:
Will: "They build more houses daddy."
Daniel: "Yes."
W: "They can eat breakfast in house daddy?"
D: "Yes."
W: "Kids move in daddy?"
D: "Yes, you going to be friends with them?"
W: "Yes, daddy, they'll be my friends daddy!"
D: "Oh?"
W: "Yeah daddy, they be my BEST friends daddy!"
D: (laugh) "Oh, ok son!"

Pics from another walk:
Thanks for being such a great daddy, babe. I love you!

The lunch box

Saturday night we went to Old Navy to use the kids' gift cards they received at Christmas. I found an outfit for Maggie, Daniel found a shirt for Will and on our way out we saw lunch boxes. The old school tin kind with the little handle and special latch. Daniel really wanted one for Will....in fact, I'm not sure who ended up more excited about it! It was hard to choose but in the end we bought one with Spiderman, Iron Man and Hulk. Well, maybe Will does win for most excited...

walking to the register
can't get a focused picture because he won't stand
still long enough
of course we have to load it up!

 for safe keeping
"the bad guy can't get it in there"
yes, the stripping down process begins the minute
we get in the door. Always. I'm surprised he still
has his socks on here

The shirt Daniel picked at Old Navy:
Will told me today: "Cian would like this shirt. He would
say , 'that's Yoda. I like that Yoda shirt.'" It's true. Our
nephew, Cian, is a big Star Wars fan (here he is
dressed up for Halloween):

Good times

Last summer I took a sewing class that walked me through constructing an outfit. I chose a romper for my then soon-to-be little girl because I thought Will was too old to start making little Johnny's for him. I was so proud when I finished sewing my very first outfit and couldn't wait to try it on my little girl. Fast forward 7+ months and it fits! There were no newborn patterns so I had to choose a larger size -- it's either 0-3 months or 3-6 -- I can't remember which. It bulges a little on the sides, but fits her lengthwise; I'm sure it would have fit sooner, but the weather wasn't exactly appropriate. I wish I had thought to have it monogrammed before I finished construction, but I can do that on my own now and it'll still look fine I think!

We bought new bubbles and played outside again today. Maggie joined us this time-- she loves being outdoors (who doesn't?) so this was a nice little treat.
Will said "come here, kitty. You're my best friend."
haha, he cracks me up!

Other funnies today:
W: "I want my Buzz shoes."
Me: "They don't fit yet buddy."
W: "Yes they do. They fit very nicely for me."
A couple cats live down the street and Will loves to pet them and talk to them when they're out and about. Will already told the cat he was his best friend, after his nap we went back outside:
W: "Hi Mr. Kitty. Where is kitty's friend?"
Me: "I don't know. Where did he go?"
Then we saw the other cat at his house, "come here kitty friend!" He walked best friend cat down to his house and said, "There you go kitty, go meet your friend."
We went inside for a few minutes and heard the school bus coming down the street and ran outside to take a look but didn't make it time. He yelled, "come back school bus!!!"

He also regularly talks to the dogs as if they understand them. Today he told Zoe where everyone's feet were (because he was sticking his in her face)
Another funny conversation Will had the other day (2/14):

Daniel: "You don't wanna play in this fort? It's a good fort. Nice and tight."
Will: "Nice and tight?" in a higher-pitched, very inquisitive tone.
D: "Yeah!"
W: "Oh my gosh!!!"
If I've learned one thing as a parent it's that you think you'll remember everything, but you don't. So I've been trying to write things down, take pictures, and video tape more things lately. These moments, these sweet, precious moments are oh so fleeting and I want to remember everything.

B-e-a-utiful

A light breeze brushed our skin and barely rustled a pile of nearby leaves as the sun smiled its warmth on us so gently I nearly heard birds chirping...sound like a fairy tale? Nope. That's a pale description of how we felt outside today. Will and I played in the front yard this morning while Maggie napped and it was absolutely delightful!! We ran up and down the street, colored with sidewalk chalk, played on the 'playground' sliding and swinging and tried to blow bubbles. Yes, tried, because the wands weren't actually blowing any bubbles out....I don't know if it's the solution or the sticks but we had no luck. We still had a great time- definitely a day to remember!
Note: this was published yesterday (2/17) when it happened, but I could not upload my pics. When I tried again today, I somehow saved my post as a draft so it appears published today.

he got a little too close to the wand
says 3+ on sticker and 4+ on bottle...
"I'm not too sure about him"

Valentines Day

For Valentines Day Will and I made heart-shaped cookies and decorated them with icing. Maggie tried out her high chair for the first time in her "love bug" onesie and Daniel brought us home candy. I love all three of my special valentines! Unfortunately for Will, he was not able to enjoy the cookie he decorated or any other for that matter because he didn't finish his dinner. Perhaps this was because he decided to sit in the high chair for dinner and babies don't eat the food we fixed...I don't know. We really wanted him to enjoy his cookie and candy from daddy, but he has to eat dinner to get dessert, so what can ya do? We didn't think it would hurt anything to let him sit in the high chair this once but explained that it's for babies and Maggie will use it when necessary.
