When Steve & Becca invited us to Disney with them, they planned to go the week after Labor Day. They used to live in Orlando and said this is the best time to go. They planned to drive early in the morning on Labor Day and spend Tuesday-Saturday in the parks. Since Daniel needed to be back to work the Monday after vacation, we wanted to check-out Saturday instead of Sunday. So we got a 4-day park pass from Tuesday-Friday. This gave us one day per park basically.
Daniel isn't one for getting up really early, so the only way we could leave at 3 or 4am is if he's still awake. And of course, being up all night then driving all day and starting a vacation could present some problems, even if we split the drive. So, instead of leaving super early Monday morning, we decided to drive half Sunday and the rest Monday morning, arriving in time for check-in.
The more I thought about it, the more I wanted to spend all of Monday there. You can go to Downtown Disney anytime, without tickets. The resort will hold your luggage and you take one of the resort buses to DD and don't have to worry about parking. So at the last minute, we decided to do the full drive on Sunday, get a hotel in Orlando that night, then move onto our resort Monday morning!
We left home about 9:30 am Sunday, September 4th and only stopped a few times. We had lunch at Subway and took our time (not rushing just makes for a more peaceful trip with kids), then dinner at Wendy's plus another stop for gas and potty.
All in all we made pretty good time, about 12 hrs- 10 hrs drive, 2 hrs worth of stops. The kids did great! We arrived at our hotel around 10:30pm Eastern time and the kids, of course, were wired after spending all day in the car. We eventually got everyone to bed so we can start the fun tomorrow!
