Will's superhero room

Will has wanted a superhero room for awhile. We almost re-did his Birmingham room several times but didn't find what we wanted or Will changed his mind and/or we were short on money and time. We were going to get started on it after his 4th birthday but then found out I was pregnant. Once we knew the baby was a boy and they would be sharing a room, I wasn't sure about a superhero nursery. Fast forward a year (yikes!) and we finally made it happen. As I mentioned during his birthday post, I made elements to double as party and room decor. You should see some things you recognize.  Here's the reveal! (with before's and after's)

Will had bedding, but I was washing it the day of his 'before' picture. I reorganized his bookshelf by putting some of his books in Jake's room (like the baby ones). I added the W and silhouette from his party atop his dresser; the cool Spiderman nightlight was a gift for his 4th birthday. I also hung the superhero bunting from his party on the two largest walls.
The framed superhero pictures were also displayed at his party. I found the bedding at Pottery Barn Kids and really like it in the room even though it was my second choice. My first choice was blue, green & white star bedding that was so cute but it sold out before I could buy it. So I went ahead and got some star sheets from PBK. I found all the tin posters on Amazon for a great price with free shipping!
More superhero pictures and tin signs. We matched each sign with the superhero Will frames- the Captain America pair is my favorite. Even though I probably like the Spiderman tin sign the best, the C.A. combination is really striking I think. The Avengers punching bag was a birthday gift and goes great in the room too. Thor is the only costume we didn't have so he stands on his own. He did receive a Thor costume at his party, so we may add that to the wall as well.
And his birthday wreath is hanging on his door :)

I have a few more projects I want to incorporate, like a nightstand and lamp, possibly some decals or stencils on the blue stripe (non bunting walls) and decoupage his W with comic book page scraps. But overall I'm pleased with how his superhero room came together. And more importantly, Will loves it! He's so excited to have a superhero room and even loves his star sheets. :)

Baby Jake- 5 months

Baby Jake turned 5 months old last week- the very beginning of last week, but still last week! Wow, another month gone by. While the 4th month seemed to slow down compared to his first 3, I'd have to say month 5 picked back up. My sweet baby boy is growing so fast. Jakie-poo, here's all about you:
  • You have rolled from back to belly now and while you don't roll over all the time (your brother was like this too), you are rolling more often.
  • Sometimes your talking borders on screaming....like I'll hear you from another room and think you might be upset only to find you talking to yourself in a mirror or a toy of some kind. I think you get this from your sister. Maggie speaks to you in a very high pitched voice- I think it's her attempt at baby talk :)
  • Not much has changed on the chewing front- you still suck or chew on your hands, fingers, binky and of course most everything you touch goes straight to your mouth
  • You got those feet to your mouth this month! Amazing how flexible we are as babies
  • You're able to get your binky back in your mouth now...but not every time. You still sometimes get upset when you pull the binky out and try to put it back in backwards
  • You're a champ eating your cereal and have enjoyed all the veggies so far. Peas seem to be your favorite- family trait I think, both your siblings were this way- and you're finicky with applesauce. You started with rice cereal of course, but this month I'm giving oatmeal cereal a try and I think it's going a little better
  • Since you love being up and looking around, you still get time in your swing and the Bumbo. We also got the bouncy out this month and you like it too but so far not for very long periods.
As always, Jake, you are my sweet, sweet, snuggly baby boy. I love that you love interaction and being a part of the family. Only sometimes you want to be held at inopportune times. But that's life. And I so enjoy being your mommy. Love you!

A few more funnies

My little man is always crackin' me up! He's so theatrical...can't figure where he gets that from. :) Here's a few tidbits since the last post:

W: Wow! You sure can make. Maybe you should go to work!
Me: Who, me? What are you talking about?
W: You should work at Waffle House, you definitely know how to make!
--we had homemade waffles for breakfast--

Go dude!! Come on dude, go!
Save yourself!
--while hanging on the back of his power wheel and talking to some invisible driver--

Me: Will, you need to get dressed if you want to go out and play
W: I know, I already told Maggie that. How could I not know? I'm five years old

Even if

I heard this song on a really bad day. I wanted to change the station. It wasn't the first time I heard it, but seeing as I was having a bad day, the words seemed more poignant. I'm pretty sure I was struggling with Maggie's CP or some part of her therapy/progress therein so the healing part really slapped me across the face. Even though I wanted to change the station, I didn't. And wasn't sure why, although of course I know why. The song didn't make my day any better....I didn't have some epiphany from hearing it and decide everything in life was okay...but I knew it was true. And I knew I needed to hear it. Even though I didn't want to.
